Honda Motor and Sony Group have established their previously announced 50:50 joint venture (JV) for battery electric vehicles (EVs) under the name Sony Honda Mobility.
The JV creation is part of the two firms’ plans to form an alliance in the mobility field. In this connection, Honda Motor and Sony Group inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in March 2022 for establishing the JV.
Through Sony Honda Mobility, the two Japanese groups will sell EVs as well as offer mobility services.

The delivery of EVs by the Japan-based firm is anticipated to begin in Spring 2026 in the US, followed by Japan in H2 2026.
Sony Honda Mobility plans to build Level 3 automated drive under limited conditions vehicles and to allow Level 2+ driver assistance in situations like urban driving.
The company will be focused on developing a comprehensive service architecture to encompass an integrated service framework that is consistent throughout from in-vehicle software to cloud-based software.
For sales, the company intends to focus on online sales, building a strong network with customers and inviting them to participate in product development.
Sony Honda Mobility stated: “The company aims to build a community of customers resonating with our brand, even for those who do not own our products, and collaborate with a wide range of industry-leading partners to create new experience value.”
The first product of the EV joint venture will be manufactured at Hondaʼs North America factory.
