Australia-based Bendigo and Adelaide Bank has shifted its digital banking system to Google Cloud to deliver better customer experience.

The financial institution’s new and fully automated consumer facing digital banking application is said to have delivered substantial boosts to performance since its migration to Google Cloud in May 2023.

Google Cloud said that Bendigo and Adelaide Bank has reduced deployment times for customer experience upgrades to 15 minutes while maintaining 99.9% availability across its foundational cloud infrastructure.

Through the rebuilding of its digital banking system on Google Cloud, Bendigo and Adelaide Bank aims to offer a more robust and tailored customer experience along with more rapid and reliable rollout of new features.

Google Kubernetes Engine enables the bank to scale down digital banking workload in off-peak periods to reduce cost and environmental footprint.

It also helps the financial institution to scale up dynamically to address the rising customer requirements and systems demand during peak usage periods.

Google Cloud Australia and New Zealand vice president Alister Dias said: “Modernising one of Australia’s largest retail banks takes long-term commitment and vision.

“Building its digital banking system on Google Cloud enables Bendigo and Adelaide Bank to not just radically strengthen its customer value proposition at scale, but also take even bolder steps into digital experiences with confidence.”

The migration of the lender’s digital banking app to Google Cloud has been supported by implementation partner Cognizant.

According to Google Cloud, the shift is a vital component of the bank’s wider transformation programme to power simplification, modernisation, and consolidation through optimised service offerings.

Bendigo and Adelaide Bank have moved 33% of its apps to the cloud so far as part of the digital transformation project, reducing disruptions to the customer experience. Besides, the bank is said to have satisfyied regulatory requirements for transferring extremely sensitive data to the cloud.

The bank aims to have 50% of its business in the cloud by fiscal year 2024.

Bendigo and Adelaide Bank chief information officer Andrew Cresp said: “As the most trusted bank, this milestone is a critical enabler in helping Bendigo and Adelaide Bank deliver a better digital banking experience and meet growing customer preferences to interact with us digitally.

“With this foundational work with Google Cloud now complete, we’re able to respond to customer needs faster.”
