Grant Thornton Advisors in the US and Grant Thornton Ireland have completed their planned transaction to form a global multidisciplinary platform that offers audit, advisory, and tax services to an expanding international client base.
The merger is supported by an investor group led by New Mountain Capital, a growth-focused investment firm managing approximately $55bn in assets under management. This deal establishes a unified organisation of around 12,000 professionals.
The new platform will feature integrated advisory and tax practices across the US and Ireland, alongside independent audit practices.
Operating under the Grant Thornton International network, the platform will maintain access to over 150 global markets and operate over 50 offices across the US, Ireland and other territories.
The organisation aims to deliver an enhanced, seamless client experience supported by advanced technologies and a skilled global workforce.
Grant Thornton Advisors CEO Seth Siegel will continue in his leadership role. On the other hand, Grant Thornton Ireland’s Steve Tennant will join the executive committee of Grant Thornton Advisors.
The audit operations in Ireland will adopt an alternative practice structure similar to that of Grant Thornton in the US.
For the merger, Deutsche Bank Securities was the financial adviser for Grant Thornton Ireland, while A&L Goodbody acted as its legal adviser.
Jefferies and William Blair & Company served as financial advisers to Grant Thornton Advisors and New Mountain Capital, with Simpson Thacher & Bartlett and William Fry with Arthur Cox were the legal advisers.
Grant Thornton Advisors represents the non-attest segment of the Grant Thornton US organisation, which also includes Grant Thornton, a certified public accounting firm offering audit and assurance services.
Together, the firms reported revenues of $2.4bn for the fiscal year ending 31 July 2023, with more than 9,000 professionals and offices across the US.
Grant Thornton Ireland has around 2,700 people in offices across the island of Ireland, Bermuda, Isle of Man and Gibraltar.
